We have a relationship with the place we ...I agree. We have a relationship with the place we live in and the extent of that relationship depends on the environment we're in. As you say, we feel less connected to a suburb because it's generic.<br /><br />But I also think that the time in your life that you're living somewhere and the people that you know there are critical and will make you feel more connected to your environment, even if it's just a suburb. <br /><br />For example, I grew up in Bethesda and Rockville, and when I go back, it feels familiar to me and I notice all the changes to the stores, new buildings, roads etc (there have been a lot!).
